Cassius is one of the main characters in the novel “Julius Caesar”. He is a general in the army who pretends to be Caesar’s friend for a long time, but all the time hating Julius Caesar and resenting the fact that he is a servant to a dictator. This is evident from when Brutus talks about Caesar fainting and offering crowds his throat to cut and Cassius says, “ if I would not have taken him at a word, I would I might go to hell among rouges,”. He is also opportunistic and has a great ability to see through the motives of people. This is evident when Caesar himself says, “"He reads much……… He is a great observer and he looks ……..Quite through the deeds of men.". He is sly, manipulative and cunning in his workings evident when Cassius tricks Brutus into believing assassinating Julius Caesar was for the better good of Rome, by first arguing with him heatedly and then asserting his position by showing him counterfeit letters which finally convinces Brutus to join the conspiracy. Cassius also believes that the higher class of people are responsible for the government and since they allowed Caesar to grow so influential and dominant that then it is their duty to stop him. Cassius is smart because he knows by bring Brutus into the plot then other will be more persuadable to being involved in conspiracy. As when others will see Brutus, who is Caesar’s best friend and dear to him willing to assassinate for the so called good of Rome, will be more obliging and convincible in acting.

In this act Anthony shows the reader how quick and clever thinker he was. After this act, no one could say he was a womanizer and a drunk as he takes charge at the moment of greatest danger and plays on Brutus’s naivety. He sympathizes with the murderers mainly Brutus through first his servant and says that he too like them feared Caesar like them and had also held Brutus in the highest esteem.
