What If Slavery Had Never Existed


I have always wondered one thing what if slavery had never existed. Yes slavery was horrible, but if you think about it what else did we get from slavery? Slavery influenced almost everything so what would be different if it had never existed?  If you think about it several bad and good things came out of slavery. One of the first accounts of slavery in America was back in 1619 when a ship of about 20 Africans arrived in Virginia. Slavery was forced labor and many white families owned slaves. Slavery was terrible it cause many problems such as the civil war and racism. Who knows if slavery had never existed by the time Africans started to come to America we might have had a different view and racism would have been such a big problem. From the 16th to the 19th centuries there had been about 12 million Africans shipped as slaves to America. Also slaveholders had a great influence on politics. In the 72 years between the time that George Washington was elected president to the time Abraham Lincoln was elected president 50 of those years had a president that had slaves. Slave eventually tried to get away which started the Underground Railroad and sparked debate. One of the main reasons we needed slaves was to work the fields in order t have enough crops to sustain life. Eventually laws were passed make all slaves in the north free which would eventually divide the country and cause the civil war. Who knows if slavery had never existed the civil war would not have happened. If the civil war had not happened w would not have gone through one of the bloodiest wars in American history. Over 902 million soldiers were killed during the civil war. However, because of the civil war came freedom for the slaves, which was a great day in American history, but after they were free they still encountered extreme racism and abuse from Americans.
