America Reborn

The novel America Reborn written by Martin Walker tells the biographies of 30 Americans that changed the way we as Americans live today. I chose to write about “The Great Bambino” also known as Babe Ruth and Walt Disney. Both of these men changed our world as we know it today and are very significant in our history.
George Herman Ruth is arguably the best baseball player to ever play the game. Some may argue that he is still the home run champion due to the fact he was around before the steroid era. There was a lot more to this American hero though then baseball. The Babe was born in February of 1895 to a relatively poor family in Maryland. I strongly feel that Babes child hood affected his life very strongly. Babe is looked at as the sort of bad boy of the roaring 20’s. When he was elected to the first class of the baseball hall of fame to not be wearing a tie. He just had this sense of cool about him that he could do whatever he wanted, and he could still be the man.
Babe Ruth was the first celebrity athlete, before Babe there weren’t really any sports superstars. He was the first person to be looked at as your favorite athlete and your favorite public figure. He was so popular that during World War 11 Japanese soldiers would yell out, “Death to Babe Ruth!”, thinking that it would upset the American soldiers.
