Achievement Gap
There is a phrase to describe our society in the United States of America; it says America is just like a melting pot. It means that we are living in a place where there is a mix blending of different types and variety of backgrounds of people. How does that really affect our country?
Today we are facing many problems with the variety of different kinds of people such as prejudice, discrimination, and many more. Now I am going to talk about a more concerned problem that is related to us as a student, the achievement gap in America’s school. The problem of the achievement gap in school is the huge performance gap between different students of different ethnic and economic backgrounds. Some of them are doing well in school learning and having success. On other hand there are students who have bad school performance, low test score, low participation and can’t even complete school. What are the major causes to these problems? It is complicated and correlated to lots of things that can’t solve easily or even can be fixed. Achievement gap in schools are the problems of students having distinctly differences of learning level.
It is likely students with a better family situation, living in a supportive environmental area, good income, and stable life style will be correlated to a better school performance and willing to complete school more. Students who have family support will have more time, money, interest, and positive personal thinking for learning or view of things. Those important facts enhance students to study, showing participation and helping them to be more successful in school. It is obviously that our environments can affect how we learn. I believe that somehow our personal thinking about this world is affected by our surroundings and where we are living.
