A Not-for-profit organization has similar issues like a for-profit organization. This case study examines Friends of Strays, a Not-for-Profit organization, and Lowes, a For-Profit organization. It examines both organizations from the beginning to now. It states the mission statements of each organization and describes the work each has done or is doing. It examines the ethical values of each organizations and the issues each has gone through or is going through with solutions as to how to fix each issue.
There are two types of companies to be analyzed. Non-profit and for profit. A non-profit organization is formed to provide a needed service or goods, but not for the purpose of making a profit. For profit is just the opposite. Their main goal is to make as much money as possible while still providing services. Friends of Strays is a non-profit organization and Lowes is a for profit company. Although these two companies are different, they share many similarities when it comes to ethical perspectives.
Theories
Ethical theories represent the grand ides on which guiding principles are based. Both organizations will be analyzed using three different theories. Consequential, or utilitarianism, meaning the greater good for the masses and not the individuals. Deontology or duty theory, meaning one has the duty to do what is expected. Finally virtue theory which is closely related to the care theory. This theory uses “your inner voice” of morality and character that one uses to make decisions.
