Trading Cultures
In my opinion, I believe Chinese people are very conservative. They do not try to converse with new people. They are all about themselves and their families. I do not think they are big on shopping. They are not considered to be very fashionable. Most Chinese people are really thin. One of the reasons why I believe they are thin is because they eat extremely healthy and hardly eat fast food. I believe that most Chinese people stick to the food their culture is accustomed to eating.
I visited China Town during my weekend with my family, and walked around and ate at a place called China Town. My family and I have eaten here before. The food is amazing and the service and people are very kind. The restaurant is very peaceful and quiet. In my culture, I am accustomed to listening to loud Latin music at a restaurant or hearing families converse and laugh aloud. In the restaurant, I felt awkward and found it disrespectful if we talked loud during dinner. The music being played was classical Chinese music. It made the restaurant seem more elegant, since it had a relaxing and peaceful tone to it.
During my time in the restaurant as well as my stay in Chine Town, I observed many habits I was not accustomed to. In the restaurant, underneath our plates and silverware we used paper placemats and on them they had different animal icons. For example, a dragon, a boar, a rat, a sheep, and many more with certain years on them, along with a description. I found out, since I was born in 1995, I am a boar. My description said that I would have lifelong friends and certain other sayings about my future. I found that to be really neat. At the end of each table, there was a metal acrylic tea jar. In each placemat, there was a teacup. I noticed that after dinner it is accustomed to serve yourself a cup of tea and this will help digest your food quicker.
