What does literature offer an individual?
Literature is an escape away from reality into a world of fantasy. It gives the person the opportunity to expand their knowledge, as well as experience life through the eyes of the author. Through literature, people experience happiness, emotions of being sad or angry just by what they read. The world of literature has impacted people in a very positive way.
How has the importance of reading changed from earlier eras (pre-digital/audio/visual media) to our present day? Do you think we read differently now than we did in prior generations?
Literature shows the insight of what happens in the society. It offers an escape for people by giving them a story to read. This allows a person to get immersed into a fictional reality. The Reading has changed exceptionally in the current days from what used to happen. With new developments in technology, there are a lot of different literature materials that can be accessed more promptly, anywhere, either on your phone, tablet, and computer. Technology has positively impacted the world of literature.
Do you think Clugston’s quote is valid? How have perceptions regarding the value of literature changed, if at all?
The quote, “a powerful curiosity about human relationships and how to cope in the world in which we find ourselves” (Clugston 2014) is valid, and I do believe the value of literature has changed. Individuals around the world turn to literature to learn or to entertain their minds in a world of fantasy or the world of the unknown. The value of literature has changed; people do not read as much as they use to. They do not have the time to these days.
What causes people’s perceptions regarding the value of literature to change?
I think that everyone has their views on why they do not read literature. For myself, it is a matter of having the time or the privacy just to sit and read in a quiet place. I believe that the society has ruined literature. I feel the value...
