Having the luxurious lifestyle has not always been the case for Anthony Gonzalez and his family. The Gonzalez family has great pride in the success of Anthony. Even though Anthony doesn’t feel he has accomplished anything compared to his father, he is a rising star in the making (Gordon 1). Anthony Gonzalez is now one of the star wide receivers for the Indianapolis Colts. For the past three years he has hid in the shadows of Marvin Harrison and even Reggie Wayne, but now he has started to show off his talents. Through hard work and determination Anthony Gonzalez is on his way to the top. Anthony is not only successful on the field but he is also a great person off the field. The wide receiver’s core values that he was raised with helped pave the way to his success.
When Anthony was young his father was starting a new job as a trucker and was just trying to earn enough to raise a family. Eduardo, his father, ended up founding a thriving business (Gordon 1). Eduardo worked hard and it really showed, even though he was away from his family a lot. The elder Gonzalez led by example in everything he did. This kind of work ethic was passed down to Anthony from an early age. Anthony wanted to grow up to be as successful as his father. Eduardo was a superhero in Anthony’s eyes; he could do anything he wanted to.
In high school Anthony started to really excel not only on the field but also off the field. He attended a private, all male Catholic school in Cleveland, Ohio (“Anthony Gonzalez”). His academics were just as strong as his heart. He was constantly trying to better himself all around. He wanted everything to be perfect. Every day when he went to practice, it had to be perfect so that he and his team would be ready to excel on game day. He received several honors such as most valuable player, defensive player-of-the-year, and four-year letterman in track, football, and basketball.
