Pears and apples both have their place in a healthy diet, but costs, availiability and percieved health effects leans the average consumer towards apples. Even dentists push apples, stating that they help clean your teeth when you don't have a toothbrush handy.Apples are far more popular than pears because of the availability, price and transportability.

Apples have long been accredited with being beneficial to you health. As the old slogan goes, "An apple a day will keep the doctor away!"

Pears, on the other hand, have not been found to have as many health benefits. A further detriment is that they bruise easily during transport, forcing vendors to charge more per pear in order to sustain a profit. Often times pears need to be packaged better than apples, which also increases the cost due to low fruit volume in the transport truck.

Personally, I much prefer oranges or pineapples - but that's a whole other useless paper that I could write just to gain access to this website.

At any rate, I believe any fruit will be beneficial to your diet. Just try to ensure you eat a variety of things or you'll end up defiencient in some vitamins or proteins.
