Texting and Driving, Will this be your last text?
This is something that happens every second, every minute, and every hour. It is a huge issue that has blown out of proportion in the past 5 years. The cell phone is an incredible device that over the years has given us the opportunity to stay connected to each other in almost every possible way but at the same time we use it on ourselves as a weapon. In this paper we will discuss different issues connected to texting while driving. This is an issue that is changing the way we drive and the way we live and is causing more issues than it solves.
When it comes to texting and driving there is an age group that has a very high risk of suffering an accidents; teens are a particular group that participate in texting and driving every day. The average teen in the United States sends over 2,899 text messages per month and fifty percent of those texts are behind the wheel. Another important group of drivers were studied by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute; truck drivers who texts while driving are 23 times more at risk of crashing than non-distractive drivers. This tells us that not only people commuting to and from work, taxi drivers, delivery drivers, truckers, and everyone else behind the wheel is texting at some point during their daily drive.
With these alarming facts I have decided to merge my concern with a local artist and start an initiative to promote save driving and encourage our society to take a closer look at this difficult issue.
