The second article I read was Discipline: Developing Self-Control by Joyce S. Pickring. From a magazine called Montessori Life. At the beginning Joyce talks about the average development, but it differs for a child with disabilities. Even though they grow up the same way as an average baby like picking up their head and walking, when they turn 3 or 4 it gets hard for them to tell adult what they want, and if the child is not getting through then the child starts shows their anger and frustration in a destructive way. Adults need to not go over board when disciplining a child with disabilities; it should be done with love that child. The article explains six methods for teaching self control from the Montessori system of teaching self-control. Structure for example would be rules of the classroom. It must be appropriate to the age level. Imitation is when the teacher sets a good example by having good manners and following the rules then the students would do the same as the teacher. Work is when the student is busy with other positive projects to take the focus off of their negative behavior. Independence is when the teacher wants to promote independence of a student when they trying to settle an argument with another student and if that teacher is needed then he or she will step in. Finally, correction is specific, when a student a not taking care of their materials they be shown how to use it properly and in a calm matter.
Also, in this article they tell about specific techniques teachers can use to discipline a child that is effective and give detailed steps on how to go about disciplining a child. Isolation is the process of removing a child who was misbehaving in an area into that is isolated. Asking a child why he or she did what they did and then putting them in an isolated area like in a corner or...
