Autobiography
Career-decision making proves to be one of the most difficult, and frustrating processes to undergo. Many people are completely unaware of what their specific vocation may be, and what occupation they wish to pursue. This can vary from people of all age groups, and is not necessarily something that can be decided over days, months, or even years. There are cumulative factors that greatly influence and impact which career one may decide to strive towards. These can range from things such as life-changing incidents, for example, a death in the family, to situations such as parental pressure. Regardless, it is important for everyone to find their “calling” in order for them to become a contributing and positive member of society. Apart from the factors listed before, things such as the economic, and social benefits play a congruent role in determining a career choice. I have chosen to pursue law because of my utmost sincere interest in this field. It represents what kind of economic status I wish to achieve, and is greatly encouraged by the close people in my life (parents, peers). It is important to find something that interests you, however this interest is not an imaginative force that somehow draws you towards an occupation. There are reasons as to why one may want to become an engineer as opposed to a doctor. People of different cultures are nurtured in different ways in regards to what occupation to pursue. It is not uncommon in families of Asian descent such as my own, where the expectations are so ridiculous, that only few occupations exist that parents will deem acceptable for their children. Also, the early introduction of gender roles sets guidelines for what types of jobs are socially frowned upon for either men or women.
