Astray

“Dude, I thought you said you know this route like the back of your hand,” Jonathan said.
“Yeah, I did, but that was a long time ago,” Steven quickly responded.
“Whatever. Let’s just try and find a way out before it gets dark,” Andy said.
It had been four years since the boys hung out with each other. They were the best of friends. In high school they were inseparable. Jonathan and Andy had known each other since elementary and Steven was Andy’s cousin. After high school, the boys went their separate ways. Jonathan did not continue school and started working full time with his father. Andy was going to a community college part time and was getting certified as an EMT. Steven moved away to a four year college and received a degree in criminal justice. They enjoyed the outdoors. They owned everything from road bikes, snowboards to tents and canoes. Every summer they always planned a big trip but this time it was just an ordinary weekend hiking through the massive trails of the Appalachian Mountains.
“So what’s the plan for this weekend?” Jonathan asked.
Andy replied, “Me and Steven were thinking about going hiking.”
“I thought it was going to rain?” Jonathan felt hesitant about the trip. “Let me check the weather again.”
“Nope.”
The boys gathered early in the morning. Before they left for their journey Steven handed Jonathan a map.
“Here’s the trail that I plan on taking you guys on.”
Jonathan was trying to read the mazy map that Steven provided for the escapade.
“How do you read this thing? There are so many lines.”
“It’s easy! Just look at the legend, you jackass.”
“Oh, ha ha my bad!” Jonathan felt dim-witted.
Two hours into the hike Steven realized that he had brought the wrong map.
“Guys, I have some good news and some bad news.”
Andy was excited to respond, “What? You saved a lot of money by switching to Geico?”
“Ha, how did you know?”
