Being mindful of my purpose, audience, tone, and content in my academic writing is highly important. Understanding my purpose when writing is essential because I want to make sure I know what I will be writing about. It is important I think about the purpose of my writing; whether it is to inform, entertain or motivate my reader. It is also important to understand my audience. By analyzing and addressing my audience, I will have a better idea of what voice and tone I will present in my writing. Determining my writing voice (the style of my writing) can also help me determine how I can make my content distinctive and informative for my audience. I will analyze and address my audience with information that is useful for them and relates to my topic. After understanding my purpose and audience, I will brainstorm and compile relating information to my topic to make sure my audience gets the appropriate information. Using the correct tone and voice for my audience is also important. My voice pertains to my personality within my writing. Tone sets the mood and engages my audience. Overall, focusing on purpose, audience, tone, and content in my academic writing is important to ensure understanding and interest from my reader.
