Have you ever been listening to the radio and all of a sudden a song came on and it just instantly became a favorite? If so what made it a favorite? Was it the artist who is a personal favorite of yours, perhaps it was the words and you felt like they were just telling the story of your life. It is even possible that maybe it was just the beat which caught your attention because it was real catchy and had a nice flow to it. I however though don’t recall ever hearing a song and loving it because of how in tune the artist is. Today’s artists today though would however disagree with me, which is why the use a product called Auto-Tune, a device to make everything they sing sound perfectly pitched.
Now I’m sure you’re all sitting there wondering what the hell I’m talking about with this Auto-Tune nonsense. Well Auto-Tune is a device that was invented by a gentleman named Andy Hildebrand in 1996. Auto-Tune is a device that can take vocals and put them onto the proper note or move it to the correct pitch. Now before you get all excited about becoming a platinum artist, Auto-Tune doesn’t have the ability to just turn anyone into a Grammy winning singer. It can only take your natural singing voice and put it so it basically all falls in the same pitch. Auto-Tunes main purpose today is so that recording studios don’t have to spend thousands of extra dollars while recording an artist who is having trouble getting every little note in tune. The first person ever to use Auto-Tune was Cher with her memorable hit “Believe” which helped her receive 3 Grammy nominations. From then on Auto-Tune has been used by hundreds of artists whether there willing to admit it or not. The biggest promoter to Auto-Tune came in 2005 when a little known rapper named T.Pain came bursting onto the scene with a hip hop style voice and Auto-Tune in his pocket.
