While I was researching for the best for this assignment, the play title Awake and Sing strongly appeal my senses. The preview of this play is a glimpse into three generations of a Jewish family struggling to survive in Depression-era New York. The concept of the play is pretty related to usual theme in our class discussion such as dreams, disappointments and the desire for adaption in new country. The place of the play was performed is Yonge centre for the performing arts at 55 mill street. The whole area is surrounded with artistic and antiqued atmosphere. The play that I saw is written by Clifford Odet, and directed by Miles Potter. He funneled his professional goal and personal resentment into Awake and Sing about a Jewish family dealing with grinding poverty and personal conflicts. As the brief summary of the play, the whole progress is composed by a dilemma and disappointment of family. The characters’ expectation for each other is different and ignorance makes them lonely. The seats are divided into two stairs and have side seats. The stage is set as usual home which has living room, kitchen, grandfather’s room and small passage through to the entrance at the back. Professional design of setting and kind services of employees makes great combination, and they give me such a good impression and experience.

The main characters are Grandfather, father, mother, daughter, son, and the man who loves the daughter. The first scene of the play starts with family dinner at kitchen. They talked to each other and discuss some topics what they were doing today. After time goes, the topic goes harsh between mother and son and it ruined...
