Book: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Claim: This book should be banned from schools, because of the racism, profanity and pornographic language.
A lot of parents would not want their kids to read such harass language. It made a lot easier for them to ban it rather fight to keep the book. I have look for why is should stay in schools and there is nothing I could find good about the book. There is so much said about the why the book should be banned. The novel was accused by a Texas school of containing “gross evils.” It takes a bit of maturity to read this book, especially concerning the molestation. Yes, it's graphic and younger people should probably wait to read it. If they did have in schools everyone would have be able to check it out and that would not be good, because any grade level would be about to read it. Many school libraries have banned I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, because numerous parents believe that the book is vulgar, poor literature and that it is inappropriate for use in public schools for young people of any age. Others believe that I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings might do what parents fear most raise important issues while leaving the young reader no avenue to discover his or her relationship to those ideas. Parents don’t want their kids to grow up fast and hear things that can make them feel bad. Books are usually banned because of content such as profanity, sexual situations, or even witchcraft. Books are constantly being pulled from public libraries, schools, and districts all together. This will never stop it takes one person and that book will be gone. Even if the book is good there is always going to be something said if it has bad things in it.
Racism is a hot topic in this book. There is a lot to this book that people don’t like. According to the new edition of Banned Books Resource Guide, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings have had thirty-nine public challenges or bans since 1983. ...
