Breaking News: President-elect Barack Obama said in a speech Wednesday (January 7th, 2009) that the economic crisis "requires immediate and decisive action." To that effect, he announced that he is designing a plan to increase jobs, while also making federal structures more energy efficient and investing in areas that secure the country's future. He also plans to create tax cuts of up to $300 billion, saying he hopes the combination of cuts and new spending on infrastructure and energy projects will help the recession from deepening. "We can no longer afford to sustain the old ways when we know there are new and more efficient ways to getting the job done," Obama said.
To enforce and monitor his plan, Obama unveiled a new position in the White House: Chief Performance Officer.
