 Throughout history, the United States Army has been known as the force which no other country can compare to. Advances in vehicular technology, weapons, and the soldiers themselves have ensured that the US remains atop the proverbial food chain. The United States not only has the best equipment and resources, but we have them first. Thus allowing us to be one step ahead of our enemies and those who wish to bring harm and disruption to the world. However, none of this technology means anything without competent soldiers who are ready to do whatever it takes to be proficiently skilled in their specific area of operation. However, having a soldier who is knowledgeable is just half the battle. Without military discipline, a soldier with that much knowledge and training is like a rabid dog that can do tricks. Sure the training is in place, but they still don’t listen to you or even so much as care who you are. On today’s battlefield, all the technology in the world means nothing without a professional individual to operate and maintain his equipment and his self.
Although a popular belief, a soldiers training doesn’t begin with basic training. A person’s basic principles and morals are developed at an early age by their parents and surrounding individuals. At a young age, people develop something that I like to call “Me-ness”, or a sense of self worth. Taking pride in the things that a person does is a very rewarding concept. Even the littlest thing, such as learning to tie your own shoes, instills a sense of accomplishment in one’s self. So after a lifetime of achievements, a person can look back and feel like their life meant something. It is a concept which is developed all throughout our younger years, and we carry it into our adult lives. Now it is at this point when some individuals choose to enlist to serve this great country of ours.
