While reading the book “I Am Malala” I felt remorse for her because of what she had to endure being a female in Pakistan. In Pakistan men seem to be the only ones whose opinions mattered, until Malala Yousasfzai. At a young age Malala showed a passion for learning, but also at a young age did she learn many men were against women being educated. Though some of these men controlled the lives of others using fear as a weapon, Malala continued to fight for what she believed was not only right by women, but a right given by God. She enlightened me to the true strive of one girl’s desire to learn in a world that shuns women who pursue an education. As a freshman about to go to college I think Malala’s struggle has inspired me because I feel appreciative of the rights I do have and, I also feel obligated to take advantage of the education that is available to me as I now know education is not a right but a privilege.
After reading about the story of Malala I realized that my country, The United States, is more fortunate than I thought. Malala was fighting for women’s right to be educated, but according to the book women had almost no rights at all other than cook and take care of the family in the house. The United States is literally known as the “land of the free” and the name suits it. Here people are able to do as they please and express themselves freely. Our country believes in democracy, fairness, and equality, opposed to a dictatorship. As Malala describes, Taliban followers killed several women for doing things that they assumed were unholy including going to school, dancing, and even being in public without a man present. Just the fact that so many people in the Middle East are living in fear of execution by the Taliban is sad to even think about. Many Muslims, including Malala and her family, say that the Quran does not say anything about women having restricted rights so, the Taliban are basically bullying people into following their own...
