May 31st started out as an ordinary day. I woke up from a party filled night to my dad’s hot BBQ chicken, and his unforgettable homemade spicy rotel dip. My day consisted of going to the overcrowded Ridge Pointe pool, and spending the day with my close friend Taylor. Taylor and I were in the middle of an intense game of NBA Live when it happened. As my most important player from the Boston Celtics went in for the winning layup, Taylor got an unexpected phone call. It was for me. Considering that my phone was messed up, this was no shocker; that is until I heard Jackie’s voice on the other end. Jackie was Kayli, my expecting ex-girlfriend’s, friend.
Jackie hurriedly filled me in on Kayli’s situation. “Kayli’s water broke, you need to get to the hospital now!” she shouted. The first thing that came out of my mouth was “Are you serious?!” I hurriedly asked her which hospital. There were countless thoughts going through my mind. The only thing I could think of was that that baby was coming right now! It was six thirty p.m., and Taylor’s concerned mother told me that I needed to calm down because that baby probably would not be here for five to six hours, that piece of information did not help me a bit.
Kayli and I were on bad terms, taking into consideration our bad break-up and numerous fights. We had gotten into another fight only a couple days before, and she had sent me a text

stating that she had lost her mucous plug the night before. How was I to know what a mucous plus was, let alone that it meant that labor was soon to come? As I was jumping in Taylor’s dodge pickup truck, I received a text message from her that told me not to come. I knew she was infuriated and that she did not want me there, but nothing was going to prevent me from coming. I began to call all my friends and family and tell them I would soon be a daddy.
