According to the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory in the University of Phoenix Week Six Web Link (2009), my own personal values are accompanied with certain strengths and weaknesses in a decision making environment. While character is an attribute that the inventory suggests I value the most, equity is the value that I concern myself with the least. An individual with a great deal of respect for character is considered to be one who concentrates on being a morally good person. This is regardless of any set of predetermined rules, and “requires looking beyond the actions to describe an individual’s character” (University of Phoenix, 2009, Week Six Web Link). The inventory also highlights the faultiness in my lack of concern for equity. This is due to the fact that there are individuals who do not have the opportunityto learn the values that create good moral character. In other words, it is unfair for me to expect all individuals to share a high level of moral character when there area significant number of those who were not taught these particular values in the first place. When making decisions, my values will result in some negative and positive outcomes, but diversity amongst the organization will expose several other value systems as well. A value can be defined as “something (as a principle or quality) that is intrinsically valuable or desired” (_Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, _n.d.).
