Beyonce

Beyonce

Saturday night, HBO aired “Life Is But a Dream,” a documentary about Beyonce, produced by Beyonce and directed by Beyonce. Beyonce was also pretty much the only person who spoke. It was pretty self-indulgent. As the Fug Girls tweeted, “I would rather hold out for the Beyonce documentary that isn’t directed and produced BY Beyonce.” And, you know, fair enough. But also: BEYONCE. Here are our picks for top-three awesome moments from the Beyonce documentary, including Beyonce on the wage gap (kinda-sorta).

1. Jay Z and Beyonce have an enviable marriage. They support each other’s work, they learn from each other, they’re adorable. Best moment: Serenading each other to Coldplay’s “Yellow.” I die.

2. Beyonce’s awesome pro-lady, pro-getting-paid speech #1:

“I’m like most women — very generous, and I’ll compromise. I used to be afraid of people thinking I was difficult or too critical, and you know, I dont really care about that anymore.”

3. Beyonce’s awesome pro-lady, pro-getting-paid speech #2.

“Women have to work much harder to make it in this world. It really pisses me off that women don’t get the same opportunities as men do, or money for that matter. Because lets face it, money gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to define our values and to define what’s sexy and what’s feminine and that’s bullshit. At the end of the day, it’s not about equal rights, it’s about how we think. We have to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves.”
