When people hear the name Bruce Lee they think of the martial artiest who changed the film/cinema industry, some may even think of the creator of Jeet Kune Do. But for the most part that’s basically all that people know or think about when they hear his name.
When I hear his name I think of one of the greatest martial artiest that has ever walked this planet, the father of “Mixed Martial Arts” the sport that is currently surpassing all others, my idol, the reason I even got into the martial arts and also a philosopher. These are just some of the reasons I believe Bruce Lee describes a master student in every aspect.
Bruce lee was born on November 27th, 1940 in San Francisco, California. His real name is Lee Jun Fan. His mother called him “Bruce”, which means “strong one” in Gaelic, this is how he received the nick name “Bruce Lee”. Bruce’s father, a Hong Kong opera singer moved to the united states to go on tour in 1939 with Bruce’s mother and three siblings. While on a trip to San Francisco Bruce’s mother went into labor.
Bruce appeared in his first film “Golden Gate Girl” at three months old in which he served as the stand in for an American baby. In 1941, when Bruce was 1 years old he and his family moved back to hong kong. Starting in 1946 he began his acting career as a child where he appered in about 20 films. He also won a cha-cha compition. When bruce was a teen, he became a member of a hongkong street gang where he would get always get into fights. In 1953 bruce began to study kung fu under his teacher Yip Men. Yip men was acknowledged to be one of the greatest authorities on the subject of Wing Chun a branch of chinesse martial arts. Yip men taught bruce his skills but it was not long till bruce was mastering his teacher. In 1958 bruce became the world boxing champ when he beat boxing champion gary elms. When bruce was 18 he got into trouble with the police because of this his mother and father sent him to the united states...
