Biology Lab Report. A Study Of Surface Area To Volume Ratio Petri-dish that has a 20mm depth of blue-stained jelly. 4 Beakers (the size is not important) A knife A ruler A cutting board Vitamin C solution Plastic gloves Blotting paper Stopwatch Method: You will be given a petri-dish that has a 20mm depth of blue-stained jelly. Cut out 2 cubes of jelly, each with sides of 20mm long. Leave one cube as it is, and cut the other cube to make 8 cubes of 10mm each. Leave one cube as it is, and cut another cube to make 8 cubes of 5mm each. Place one cube of each size in a beaker and cover them with Vitamin C solution. Leave for 5 minutes and note your observations. Pour the solution off into another beaker, and quickly dry the surface area of the cubes with blotting paper. Measure how far the Vitamin C has penetrated into the cube. Replace the cubes into the Vitamin C solution for another 5 minutes and repeat steps 5 and 6. Make note of the time it takes for each cube to become clear. Repeat the experiment as many times as possible in the allotted time in order to gain reliable and comparable results. Data: {draw:frame} Table2: This graph shows how much of the Vitamin C solution had penetrated into the jelly cubes(mm). {draw:frame} Unfortunately there is not much that I could have improved to save this problem, but I could have taken a longer time trying to cut the cubes more precisely, which I did not do because I would have got less results because of the lack of time.
