When examining Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night, I first noticed his use of black and blue colors. The sky is filled with brighter colors to highlight the stars shining through the dark sky. There is a tree in the foreground that draws attention to it. Behind the tree one can see a small town surrounding a church. The vantage point of the painting appears to be on a mountain or hillside surrounding this town. The town is surrounded by hillside terrain. Some of the homes appear to have lights on – as if there are people living in the painting. The sky is filled with whirling clouds and bright stars. He uses dramatic brushstrokes to bring life to the wind and the sky.
