In the Brenton Butler case there were many flaws in the interrogation process by the Detective Team. The detectives in this case were Glover, Darnell, and Williams. All three detectives in this case had many flaws, but for me the three major flaws that stood out the most where: Detective Darnell writing the police report in his own words, Detective Glover not mentioning hitting Brenton Butler , and that neither detective interviewed the parents of Brenton Butler.
The first major mistake the detectives had in the interrogation process was that none of the detectives went to Brenton Butlers home or neighborhood to interview anyone. I feel that the detectives should have gone to the Butlers residence to interview the parents, and investigate at what time, where, and when Brenton Butler left his house the day of the murder. They should have also interviewed the people in the neighborhood to see if they had seen Butler that morning. I also feel that the detectives should have gone to the place where Butler went to pick up the job application that morning. If any of the detectives would have done a better job interrogating and interviewing the last places where Butler had been at before the time of the crime, they should have been able to rule him out as a suspect at the time the murder happened.
The second mistake that the detectives made in the interrogation process is that neither Detective Darnell nor Williams said that Detective Glover hit Brenton Butler in the face and stomach. This part of the interrogation went wrong because neither detective was able to admit the Glover hit Butler at the time. All detectives were hammered on the stand when Butler’s lawyers produced pictures of his black eye given to him by Detective Glover. This occurred while Butler was being forced into the woods to find the alleged gun used in the murder.
