The biggest website in the world is the website I am about to tell you right now. It’s Facebook. Facebook is a social network service and website that launched in February 2004. It is operated and privately owned by Facebook Inc. Facebook allows anyone who declares themselves to be at least 13 years of age to create a profile.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. In its first 4 hours online, it had attracted 450 viewers and 22, 000 photo-views.
The following semester, Zuckerberg began writing a code for a new website in January 2004 for a website that was to be released in February. On February 4th 2004, he launched TheFacebook originally located at thefacebook.com. Membership was initially restricted to the students of Harvard College. In March 2004, the website expanded to Stanford, Columbia and Yale. It soon opened to the other Ivy League schools, Boston University, New York University, MIT and gradually expanded to colleges and universities all across the United States and Canada.
