Brief History on the Apartheid in South Africa and Racism in the United States.
Apartheid with is an Afrikaner word that means “apartness”. South* Africa is known to be a country that is bless with great quantity of natural resources, as well as fertile farmlands and unique mineral resources.* South Africa mines are world leaders in the production of riches such as diamonds and gold as well as premeditated metals such as platinum. South Africa was a colonized by the English and Dutch in the seventeenth century. *English domination of the Dutch descendents as known as Boers or Afrikaners resulted in the Dutch establishing the new colonies of Orange Free State and Transvaal. The discovery of riches such as diamonds were found in these lands around 1900 resulted in an English invasion which a war called the Boer War started. Following *independence from England, an uneasy power between two groups the Afrikaner National Party and the National Party. In the 1940’s when the Afrikaner National Party was able to gain a strong majority, but strategist in the National Party invented apartheid, which they are able to strengthen their control over the economic and social system. Primarily *the aim of the apartheid was to maintain white domination while extending racial separation. In the 1960’s the “Grand Apartheid” was executed, emphasizing territorial separation and police repression. *With the endorsement of the apartheid laws in 1948, racial discrimination was institutionalized. Race laws touched every aspect of social life, including a prohibition of marriage between non-whites and whites, and the sectioning of “white only” jobs*. In 1950, the Population Registration Act required that all South Africans be racially* grouped in *three categories: White, Black (African) and coloured* (of mixed decent).
