INTRODUCTION
21CN (21st Century Network) is a Next Generation Network (NGN) being deployed by British Telecom (BT) over the next 5 years. The core aim of the project is to bring the UK's telecoms network in to the digital age, whilst at the same time allowing BT to save up to '1billion per year in costs. The total cost of the project is estimated at '10billion.
WHAT IS 21CN?
21CN is BT's global, software-driven customer network that introduces new next generation faster than ever before services. The 21st century network is an advanced communication network for the future, which will consolidate BT's existing 16 separate networks - each of which supports a different type of communication service - into a single, multi-service platform.

Fundamentally 21CN is about customer choice - it's a platform for innovation that truly puts flexibility and choice in the hands of the customers - both in the UK and across the world. To meet the needs of the customer today as well as in the future - the scope of 21CN has been expanded and now includes:-
the introduction of software-driven innovation capabilities
