Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder in which a normal weight person engages in binge eating and then purges the excessive food consumption by self-induced vomiting or, less often, by taking laxatives or enemas. Bulimia is becoming a very serious matter when talking about women and weight. Bulimia is very dangerous eating disorder that mainly affects white woman.
There are many factors and reasons that someone could become bulimic. Culture is one of the leading causes. Women and sometimes men are under pressure to be thin and it is the ideal look for an American woman. Magazines of women with perfect bodies makes many young woman think that is what they have to have which leads to them becoming bulimic. Another reason someone could become bulimic is a low self-esteem. Sometimes bulimia can even run in the family, many woman with bulimia have mothers or sisters who are also bulimic.
There are several ways to tell if someone is suffering from bulimia nervosa. Many of them are obvious such as someone always going to the bathroom after they eat, taking diet pills, exercising to much, or taking pills to urinate. Some may show signs of throwing up like swollen cheeks, teeth that look clear, or broken blood vessels in the eyes.
Bulimia Nervosa affects a persons bodily very seriously and can cause defects to a persons body. Bulimia affects a persons heart, causes irregular heart beat, heart failure, low pulse and low blood pressure. Your body fluids is also affected causing dehydration, low potassium, magnesium, and sodium. Bulimia affects a persons intestines causing constipation, bloating, and diarrhea. A persons throat will also be sore and irritated and sometimes a person will throw up blood. Last thing that Bulimia affects is a persons mouth, causing them more likely to have cavities, tooth enamel erosion, and gum disease.
