BUS 314 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING Group D `Are you ready? These stats are going to seem harsh but they are the truth about American society and the lives of children in the United States. In the year 2000, 876,213 persons were reported missing to America’s law enforcement agencies, of that number 85 to 90 percent were juveniles, persons under 18 years of age. That means that 2,100 times per day parents or primary care givers felt the disappearance was serious enough to call law enforcement. Also included in that number 152,265 of the persons reported missing were categorized as either endangered or involuntary.The number of missing persons reported to law enforcement has increased from 154, 341 in 1982 to 876,213 in 2000. That is an increase of 468%. Those numbers are very serious, and an increase in that amount is nothing to be taken lightly. One missing child is serious enough, but 800,000 are just appalling. ` `The microchip is inserted under your child’s skin, it is small, aboutthe size of a grain of rice, and hasa unique number embedded on it. This number whenregisteredis then linked to the parent of the child, the police and the hospitals. This form of identification/tracking will be very efficient in locating missing children, or tracking their whereabouts. Inserting a microchip does not require surgery or even sedation. It is inserted deep under the skin between the shoulder blades with a large needle. Hospital and Doctors’ who will havemicro chippingservices will usually recommend, or at least mention, the microchiptoosoon to be parents. Most parents will choose to have this procedure done when the child is born to avoid the pain of the big needle required to insert the microchip. Microchip child identification is used in cases where childrenhave been kidnapped, lost, or even to track their steps.
