TEAM WORK

A group of talented individuals working towards a common goal is a referred as team work and managing a work group or a team with diversities is one of the challenging tasks for an organization (Price, Gavin, Florey, 2002). In today’s quickly changing business environment, teams have emerged as a requirement for business success. A performing, intelligent and efficient team that also adapts to changes in business environments has become a competitive advantage to a company (Gerben & Vandervegt, 2010). Team is made up of individuals and there are disadvantages in terms of disagreement, conflicts and seeking someone to blame for failure. Moreover, their work affects the organization’s progress. It is important to analyse if team works are truly worth the hype in today’s business world or has just been over-rated because it has become a trend illusion. The positive outcomes from team work, the hurdles they face, conflicts and various means to rectify them and individuals’ role in team, the advantages and disadvantages has been discussed with examples from literature and practise.

In an organization the advantages of teamwork are many. It becomes easier for a company to achieve larger goals with higher level of quality than an individual can acquire. A carefully chosen team becomes a combination of strengths with range of abilities, fields of expertise, different personalities and range of opinions on various issues (Gerben & Vandervegt, 2010).
