TO: thomasclare@listindustries.com From: hcs@listindustries.com Date: January 10, 2009 Subject: Self-evaluation of my decision Dear Mr. Thomas Clare, As per your request, I am sending you this email to self-evaluate my decision in our overage space issues and whether it will work for us to move or stay at current location. I will touch base with the processes that I took to reach the final decision that I have made in regards to this problem. I used a six-step rational-decision that I learned from Bazerman & Moore’s anatomy of decisions model. These steps are 1) Define the problem, 2) Identify the criteria, 3) Weight the criteria, 4) Generate alternatives, 5) Rate each alternative on each criterion, and 6) Compute the optimal decision. Define the problem: We need to determine whether or not moving will be cost effective or not to move. Will it cost more to move or stay? If we stay, what would the solution or solutions be to make more room within the warehouse that would be beneficial to the company? If we move, what costs would it take to move entire warehouse and the stock within it? Weight of the criteria: The weight of each criteria listed above is cost-effectiveness 50%, employee morale 30%, Risk assessment 50%, and Management quality 40%. These weights are based by their importance as stated by Bazerman & Moore (2009, p.4), which were discussed with the Regional Manager and Distribution Manager of the Warehouse. Generate alternatives: The alternatives we could perform would be to stay in the current location and increase our shelving to one additional level, stay in the current location and decreasing stock by 10%, outsourcing orders to other, larger distribution centers, or leasing the available warehouse next door and expanding production and stock.
