In business strategic planning means mapping the location of the organization as it relates to the market segments the organization is positioned in, how the customer needs are changing and the direction and intensity of the competitive forces. The external and environments of business are always changing. Organizational strategic planning is usually done in a yearly basis. Long term strategic planning is not always effective. This kind of planning is effective when the internal and external conditions are static which is a rare case.
All outside factors that may affect an organization make up the external environment. The external environment can be generally classified in two. The directly interactive: This environment has an immediate and firsthand impact upon the organization. Directly interactive forces include owners, customers, suppliers, competitors, employees, and employee unions. Management has a responsibility to each of these groups. Also the Indirectly interactive: This environment has a secondary and more distant effect upon the organization. New legislation taking effect may have a great impact. An organization’s external environment has three components: the remote environment, the industry environment and the operating environment.
The remote environment refers to the political, economic, social and technological forces that have an impact on any organization in this case Maquet cardiovascular. The selected organization for the strategic plan is Maquet Cardiovascular. Maquet Cardiovascular is a subsidiary of the publicly-listed Swedish group of companies Getinge AB. Cardiovascular Division manufactures and distributes equipment for cardiac and vascular surgery including coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve repair, aneurysm repair and extra- corporeal circulation.
