Cambodian Genocide

Cambodia is located in South East Asia; its capital is Phnom Penh. It was the core of the old Khmer kingdom in the earliest 1975. Pol Pot, the leader of the Khmer Rouge guerilla, organized a new and heartlessly mission to re-construct Cambodia under the communist model of Mao in China. His believes were based in creating an extremist and rigid working population, where the laborers were obligated to work in a huge collective farms federation. In addition, all the people that were intellectuals, good educated, and in opposition, must be cruelly abolished. This was the main objective of Pol to “clean up” Cambodian’s population and establish a new society in the country.

Following this, educated people were asked to leave in a short advice. Doctors, teachers, lawyers, business men, engineers, scientists, students, even the army members, among others, were received a short notice to leave their homes, hobbies, and of course, the country. Obviously, those who were not agreed and refused to go and remained there were killed. People who were ill, disabled, very youngest and oldest people were taken out as well. Clearly, not everyone was secure depending on their physical condition; some of them were not able even to leave the city and run from this starting nightmare. This was because they could not leave on time, or maybe were refusing to leave and obey orders. If a family member does not agreed and say no to a statute, all the family were murdered as well.

It seemed like if all political and civil rights were eliminated and no more faceable. People had nothing for support themselves; there was no secure place, neither trustworthy person. Everyone was living with a fear and threats of being killed. Nobody was able to talk or do what they used to do, there was no freedom. The population was under a radical change in all senses. Parents viewed their taken children suffering, meanwhile they were placed in forced labor camps. Even in the farms, the guerrilla killed...
