Career Research Report: Nutritionist/Dietician

Initially, all three of my careers were considered to be amongst the medical field. That is something I have always taken interest in. According to my interest inventory, I am social or a “helper”. To many, that is not a big surprise. My top three careers were nutritionist/dietician, counseling psychologist, and a respiratory therapist. My career choice, the nutritionist, is exactly what the career profiler suggested. I was fortunate enough to have at least a broad idea of what field I was interested in. Helping people and food are my two passions in life. The choice is easy. Contrary to popular belief, being a nutritionist is a lot harder than it sounds. Dietitians and nutritionists arrange food and nutrition programs, and supervise the preparation and serving of meals. They help prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits and suggesting diet modifications. Dieticians sometimes run food services in hospitals and schools. Nutritionists may work for local, state, and national government agencies including health departments and cooperative extension services, world health agencies, health care facilities, schools, food-related industries, fitness centers and spas, or in private practice. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, most nutritionists are on their feet and work about 40 hour weeks. Also, some may work in hot congested kitchens.
