Case 3.1
Hate Speech

Jake a student at Pinecerst College was viewed as a good kid, when he was sober. His friends loved to be around him when he wasn’t drunk and refused to go out when he would be. He was a completely different person when he became intoxicated. After a big game that the basketball team had just one a party was thrown. Jake attended and lost count of how many beers he had consumed by the end of the night. On the way back with his friends he became belligerent and started yelling racial slurs. He friends quickly tried to resolve the acts but didn’t have much success. After finally getting him into his room they thought that would be the end of it all, but he found his way back out and yelled again and again. Later the next day another student who overheard everything contacted his parents about transferring schools. Jake didn’t even know him but making a student even begin to think of such a thing is awful. Jake was given fines by the police and also charged against the school. Clearly marked in the handbook about racial matter he was punished accordingly. In my opinion I think Jake should be expelled. Not only was he drunk on campus but also he was clearly yelling racial slurs. Under no circumstances should this arise. It’s a terrible thing to do sober or drunk. He should never allow himself to come to that point of intoxication and have some respect for others around him.

He decided he’d go around and ask his fellow students. As he went around he found out many people thought the same. Most responses were I only drink at parties or with friends; or maybe one or two when I’m...
