Abstract

Takeover’s has become so common in the present era. Companies take interest in building their business empire in a global perspective. They look forward to the benefits that they can yield from the takeover. Organizations diversify into several product lines and will give concentration on their core competencies and gain from other companies either by selling it off to other companies or leasing and getting this done. Takeovers have their own drawbacks also, at that time the skills of management holds the key to tackle these problems. This case study discusses such an organization which has a very good management team headed by its CEO Hans Wijers, Akzo Nobel.

Akzo Nobel is a Dutch based coatings manufacturer ranked one in world coatings market. They had recently taken over Imperial Chemical Industries PLC limited from UK for a huge sum of 16.3 Billion US $. Some of the benefits that were able to get was a lead in world paint market, retain the 1st position in world coatings market, synergy etc… they even had plans to sell business that were of not core competence to them thereby realizing profits and they will get an added advantage of maintaining less working capital.

But they got up with certain problems which created lot of chaos. Some of the problems were as follows;

• CRITICAL issues

• Resistance to change from the side of employees.

• Fear of loosing jobs which created a change in employee’s attitudes towards the company.

• Reallocating and Reassigning employee’s between the organizations was really a hectic job....
