I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Grand Slam Flooring is a flooring supply company located in Pompano Beach, Florida. Grand Slam Flooring was founded in 2005 by brothers Eric and Juan Castro. Business and sales have increased every year since the company opened, only to falter now, in early 2009. Grand Slam Flooring sought out consultants from the local university, Florida Atlantic, to try and solve the company’s issue.
Enclosed is a summary of the work conducted by the consultants and the consultants’ final recommendations for Grand Slam Flooring. The consultants performed research regarding the flooring industry, the history of Grand Slam Flooring, and the background of its operators. Consultants also inquired into the objectives and goals of Grand Slam Flooring. The consultants looked into the competition of Grand Slam Flooring, and what the competition had to offer in comparison to Grand Slam Flooring. The consultants defined Grand Slam Flooring’s current problem regarding operations and sales, and further go on to list the appropriate and relevant research and analysis conducted to attempt to solve Grand Slam Flooring’s problem.

II. INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

The flooring industry forms part of the construction industry. The global construction and engineering industry grew by 5.9% in 2008 to reach a value of $2,323 billion. However, the industry shows a decrease compared to 2007 and 2006 (See figures 1 & 2 below). Also, the compound annual growth rate of the industry in the period 2004-2008 was 6.1%.1
