A human service professional often experience various child abuse cases during his or her career. It is important for a professional to understand the importance of such a case and how they should be handled. Since most human service workers are not specialized to a certain field, they must various strategies to help better the situation at the time. These strategies help the professional help the client obtain his or her reachable goals. Whenever there is a child abuse case the professional should notify the Department of Children and Families and the local authority. These two department work hand in hand to solve the crime if there has been one committed.
Case 14 is about a six year old named Tavion Robinson. Tavion was taken to the Methodist Hospital by his father for a broken arm. During the time they were in the emergency department, Taions father appeared hesitant to allow Tavion to be left alone with the hospital staff (Gerbner, 2009). When asked what happened to his son the father replied that he had fallen from the jungle gym at the playground. When the nurses took Tavion to do his x-rays they did not allow his father to come. They questioned the boy about his injury and his responses matched his fathers. However, Tavion’s injuries were clean and the story his father told seemed false to the hospital staff. When asked if he were afraid of getting hurt at home his answer was no.
Tavion’s mother’s statement of concern of abuse sufficient to warrant further investigation by the hospital and since Tavion’s mothers would be one who knows rather her son is being abused or not and the hospital identified these same issues I believe the father should be questioned for the safety of the child.
