Protestants and Catholics have been in dispute for centuries. One particularly long dispute between beliefs, communities, people, behavior, and countries was in Ireland. This rivalry started in, the 1640’s.
There are many religious aspects of Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. For example the Catholics preferred to use Latin services till the 1960’s, whereas the Protestants held English services at all times. In terms of the churches used for these services, the Catholics had a much more decorative church, a main feature being its stained glass windows. On the other hand the Protestants were less decorative and preferred its followers to be less distracted. Also the Catholic churches contained many statues such as Jesus’ and Virgin Mary. The Protestants, however, preferred a statue less church. According to the prayers that each form of Christianity performed, the Catholics prayed through saints, confessed their sins through a priest, and imposed less stress on The Bible. The Protestant views were totally opposite of the Catholics. They preferred the exclusion of prayer through saints and the confession of sins through a priest. They also imposed large stress on The Bible. Another main reason why these two communities are different is the involvement of the Pope. Catholic societies appointed the Pope as the head of their church, whereas the protestant made the British Monarchy their head of church. Lastly the most important factor that separates Catholics and Protestants is the proceedings in each culture’s mass. Mass is the mystical changing of the bread and wine in the Christian religion, which is also known as transubstantiation. In Roman Catholicism the bread and wine change into the body and blood of Jesus Christ. In contrast with Catholicism, the Protestants believe that the bread and wine symbolizes the coming together of a community in order to worship god.
