and science

Many
leadership
theories
were developed
and studied
during the
last centur

but no
single
approach
to leadership
has been identif
ied
as the
best method
for all
situations.
The
fundam
enta
ls
of leadership,
motiv
ating
and directing
a
group to achieve
a
comm
on
goal, have
changed
ver
y
littl
e
over ti
me
;
but the
context
of leadership,
the
complex
it
y
of, and diversit
y
within
organizations,
and

ocieta
l
values,
have each
evolved
greatl
y
over the
last one hundred
y
ea
rs.
Due to
innate
flexibili
t
y,
the
strengths of Situational
Leadership
far outweigh
the theor
y’
s
shortcom
ings.
Situational
leadership
is applicable
at both
micro
and macro
scales, appropriate
for simpl
e
or comp
lex
tasks and
adaptable
for followers of all
develop
men
tal
levels
(Thomas
and
Bainbridge).
Leadership
is contextual
and
Situational
Leadership
Theory
is ti
meless
because
it
addresses both the
changing
complex
it
y
of the tasks, and the
changing
abilities
of the followers,
as the

move
together
toward goal attain

nt.
I believe
that
Situational
Leadership
is best
suited
to the
practice
of College
Student Affairs and best
