Focus on the learner assignment:

Students background and Motivation
The subject I chose for my assignment is an Italian male from Rome called Dominco. He is a very determined individual who has clear aims in life and wishes to pursue them. He wants to study English to pass a security guard course which he wishes to take this year in London. With the security license that he aims for, he wishes to find a job in Los Angeles, working for VIP clients such as movies stars. He is very interested in the ‘idea’ of Los Angeles, linked perhaps to the American Dream. He has Egyptian friends in Italy and recognises similarities between the two cultures. The similarities he identified were, the family values and food. He expects to be able to use his English effectively enough to pass his security guard course.
Learning Experience:
He sometimes picks up on the mistakes of the teacher and turns them into a joke discreetly with his partner. The funny thing about it is, he jokes with them in English. He does so in a polite manner, but it does sometimes disrupt the flow of the lesson when he doesn’t understand the explanation offered by my colleagues teaching him. Usually he doesn’t disrupt me as we have gotten to know each other better and perhaps he offers me more respect in this regard by only asking me questions during the pair work. He will sometimes address the teacher as if they are wrong and when he wishes to clarify an issue, he will ask “It’s ok?” and then when the issues is addressed he will reply “yes, yes” with an attitude that appears to minimise the severity of the error or situation,...
