Charater education

This past week have been both informational and challenging. Working with my group members has opened my eyes to a greater awareness of each character trait. I valued the loyalty between us four strangers. By working together, we exhibit our own personal values to each other. While we were challenged with different time zones, work schedules and responsibilities, we stay loyal to one another and committed to our assignment. I remember having a lot of problems editing my portion of the presentation. I became so frustrated because I was not very knowledgeable on how Google documents worked. I reached out to my teammate Sara pleading for her help and with much empathy, she was delighted to help me. I particularly love working within a team setting but I am use to it being face to face. I prefer to interact with my team on a personal level. However, technology has afforded us the ability to get as close possible to real life interaction. We had the ability to Skyped, communicate by telephone and work on project where live updates could be seen.

As I reviewed each character trait this week, I reevaluated myself to insure that I was displaying all five traits personally as well as professionally. I believe that each character trait is important and they are equally needed but the one I was most intrigued with was the character trait “Respect”. My mother always would tell me that there is a level of respect that every human being deserve, however your respect level increase or decrease based on your actions. Lickona(1991) explains that “Respect mean showing regard for the worth of someone or something. It includes respect for self, respect for the rights and dignity of all persons, and respect for the environment that sustains life(pg. 67).

Teaching my students to respect one another has been very challenging but rewarding. First, I had to realize that a person can not give another respect when he do not have respect for himself....
