For my summer reading book I chose, Get in the Gamewritten by Cal Ripken Jr. In the book, Get in the Game, the author talksabout the keys to success and tips for getting by in life. For example the author talks about in various chapters, the right values, a will to succeed, and preparation for life. He also talks about his road to becoming a shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles and what drove him to shatter the most consecutive games played in the MLB (Major League Baseball), which was an outstanding 2, 631.During the first twenty-five pages of my summer reading book my first impression of the main character, which so happened to be the author of the book, Cal Ripken Jr., was hardworking, determined, and knew how to get what he wanted in life. I realized this when Cal stated in his book, “In order to be successful and persevere in anything, it all starts with the right values. You do the hard work. You do it with excellence. You are honest, sincere, and you give it your all. I realized, after Cal made that statement, that he was determined in getting to where he wanted to go in life and knew how he was going to get there. I knew if Cal followed by his statement that he was going to go far in life and succeed in whatever he does in life. Cal Ripken Jr. followed his statement exactly and wound up playing in the MLB for twenty-two seasons and passed Lou Gehrig’s most consecutive games played in the MLB. “So there I was-thirty years old, and eight-year veteran, and struggling badly. I wondered whether my skills were starting to deteriorate, and how long I could last as a big leaguer. I thought about asking my father for help, but I’d lost confidence in him, but I just needed the advice of somebody with more experience who understood what I was going through.
