College has really changed me in a drastic way. A large number of students say that college is the biggest change in their lives. Living alone as a college student is a big change for me, because it is very different from living at home. I am used to living with my big family. I am learning every day to be more responsible. Money is much more of an issue to me now. My life now is very different from the life I used to live. I used to live my life with no worries. My mom did all the cleaning. I did not have to get a job because I had no need for money. That has all changed now that I am in college.
One thing I miss is my family. Family is very important to me, so when it came time to move out on my own, I was pretty nervous. I am used to living with a large family which included my parents, my sister, her two children, my grandmother, and one of my brothers. We used to take in foster children as well, so I was always used to people. I used to be able to get help whenever I needed it or money when I wanted it. I could get a ride to the store when I needed something. There was always someone there to spend time with. Now, everything has changed. My parents are no longer around to loan me money or help me with my problems. There are no more siblings who will spend time with me, and no more little children to play with. I am utterly alone. I realize now that having people in my life is worth more to me than I knew. I have to cook for myself and clean up after myself. My mom used to do that, and she cannot do that for me anymore. My mom also taught me that responsibility is an important thing to have.
Living by myself and being a student is making me become more responsible. I used to sleep in and have virtually no responsibilities. Now, I have to make sure to wake up early and get to class on time. I also was able to take naps in the middle of the day if I wanted to, but I do not have the time to do that anymore.
