After reading the article Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance, I
found it to be quite interesting. In this article the authors talk about the communication between two people. I do not think we realize how important communication is to our relationships with others. The article, “Shared Talking Styles Herald New and Lasting Romance” (Bower, 2010) talks about conversation and how it effects of could affect ones relationships or friendships. With a variety of experiments, they found that “opposite – sex are more likely to express mutual interest when using similar speaking styles than those who differ.” (Bower, 2010) “They also showed that young couples in a committed relationship, whom used similar writing styles during 10 days of instant – messaging chats, we're likely to stay together.” (Bower, 2010) Communication is a key in any relationship whether it be between the same sex and opposite. If you cannot communicate with someone than you will never be able to have a relationship/friendship. Some people you will be able to communicate better with than others.
In the article Paul Taylor stated “if you just click with somebody but can’t put a finger on why, there’s a fair chance that high language-style matching is going on.” (Taylor 2010) (Bower, 2010). I believe that is true, there are several people that I have met that I have just clicked with. I feel like I can talk to them about anything. I seem to really enjoy our conversations and feel we are on the same wave length. For example, in doing the Language style matching study using a conversation over instant messaging between a very good friend and me, I have found that we are compatible.
