Communication Opinion Paper
Communication can be described as simply the process of sending and receiving information. However, communication means different things to different people, depending on the circumstances and environment.
There are key elements of communication: purpose, tone, audience, content and style. Purpose is why the message is being sent. Tone should reflect the receiver or audience and be either negative, positive or informative. Content should also reflect the receiver or audience and is what the message is about. Style is the way in which the message is presented. The audience is who the message is intended for or who is receiving the message. The doctor will examine the young girl and ask more questions to see if it is a possible ear infection or too much wax build up. If the nurse or the doctor do not receive the correct information the young girl may be misdiagnosed. “Health communication is important for several reasons. It allows patients and caregivers to share concerns and establish trust” (du Pre, 2005, p 22).
Basic elements of effective communication differ from the basic rules of health care communication because the elements are communicating the message in a tone and style that the receiver/audience will understand. Health care communication rules are to choose your timing and stick to the matter at hand. Do not interrupt and stay calm because when people get angry or upset all reason tends to disappear. Express your feelings, as well as your opinions....
