1 Introduction
For the Media studies: policy, management and media representation first assignment the following topics are discussed: First examples of four forms of regulation namely norms, pressure groups, advertisers and consumers are discussed. The definition of internal media regulation is provided. A theoretical discussion of the forms of norms are provided with examples of each form. Then an explanation of how each form of regulation impacts the media and content.
Next, there is an illustration of a fictitious magazine, Teen Zone’s life cycle using the four-phase model of De Jong. Each phase describes the duration, nature of the market, measure of competition and the volume of sales.
Lastly, the characteristics of news values: Intensity or threshold, cultural proximity or relevance, unexpectedness and composition are defined and discussed along with a practical example from an online Sports 24 article.
